Sense of Travelling in Saigon - Vietnam: An Illustrated Book about Architecture and Lifestyle

Saigon – Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city and located in the south of Vietnam. It has a tropical climate with two separate seasons of wet and dry. Together with the unique weather, Saigon has many attractive places because of its long history of establishment and development. Local markets, palaces, museums, theatre, schools, pagodas, temples, and various landmarks are a tangible proof of its cultural and economic characteristics, showing a mix of the past and the present, the classic and the modern. Saigon locals have a traditional lifestyle on how they conduct their rituals, celebrate Lunar New Year or Tet holidays, meet and greet friends, and perform daily activities. Family is the most important value that is reserved in Saigon. This book comprises two parts. The first part provides a series of sketches presenting famous architectures and buildings in Saigon. They were sketched because they have been a part of the long history of the city where travellers could visit once coming to Saigon. The sketches were purposely arranged in this book to tell the story of travelling sense. Texts were attached together with each drawing to illustrate the building features and to express artist’s emotion of sketching.The second part shows the sketches of Saigon residents’ lifestyle that had attracted and inspired the author. Many sketches of family activities from day to day and common things happened on Saigon streets were captured to reflect the dynamic but traditional culture of Saigon, especially in the Tet festival. It is said that a picture can tell more meanings of an object than a word can.
